01The material
A hand trowelled microcement wall in raking light, a leather armchair on dark timber boards in front of it
Plate A. A thin pass, laid by hand

A thin skin of cement over what you’ve already got.

Advanced microcement goes on by hand in a few thin passes and sets as one surface. No grout, no joins. That’s why it ends up on bathroom walls, hallway floors and kitchen islands.

The whole system is a couple of millimetres thick. It’s a finish, not a floor. It takes its strength from what’s underneath, so the prep matters more than the trowelling.

A kit goes on in layers. Primer, so it grips. Advanced microcement in thin coats, sanded between. Then the sealer, which is what actually takes the water and the wear.

Going over tiles? An acrylic render base goes on first to fill the grout lines. Tell us and we’ll include it.

Primer, advanced microcement, sealer. A base if it’s tiled.

02Why advanced

03The products

X-Micro for walls. Xtreme for walls and floors.

Two advanced microcement kits. Pick by what you’re covering, not what you want to spend.

X-Micro is the wall kit. One super-fine grade, smooth finish. In a bathroom it’s the finish over your waterproofing.

Xtreme does walls and floors. Coarse, medium or fine, and harder wearing, which is what a floor needs.

Walls only? X-Micro. Any floor in the job? Xtreme.

No training needed. It’s all premixed. Put it straight on the wall.

Both come as 15 m2 or 30 m2 kits. Kits from $399 for a 15 m2 wall kit. That’s the 15 m2 wall kit. Floors, wet areas and going over tiles change the price. Call us and we’ll price it on the phone, or send the job and we’ll get back to you.

05Build your kit

Three questions and we price your kit.

First time? Don’t start with the product list, start here. Three answers and your area, and the builder names the kit and lists what’s in it. Send it and we price it.

One tub does 15 m2 and weighs 20 kg. A 30 m2 kit is two tubs. Over 30 m2, tell us the area and we’ll sort it.

01

What are you covering?

Plasterboard, render, tiles or concrete. Tiles take a base coat.
02

Wall or floor?

Xtreme covers both. X-Micro is sold for walls.
03

Wet area or dry?

Wet-area kits add mesh.
06Wet areas

Wet areas, straight up.

Microcement isn’t a waterproofing membrane. Don’t trust anyone who says it is. In a shower or bathroom the waterproofing goes underneath and has to comply on its own. That’s the rule in Australia, and it’s what keeps water out of the building.

What you get on top is one surface, no grout lines, sealed so water sits on it rather than in it. Wet-area kits include mesh to bridge the joints and grout lines underneath.

Waterproofing done and signed off? You’re ready for a kit. Not done? Talk to your waterproofer first. Not sure? Ask us.
